First Baby Shower Sew

In all the time that I have been sewing (about 10 years), I have NEVER sewn anything for a baby shower! Not even once! For one, I never felt that I had the skills. And for another, I usually just made a whole bunch of hair bows and called it good.

Well, my cousin is pregnant with her first baby. A little boy. I am so excited for her! I couldn't just give in to my old fall back because you don't usually find hair bows on little boys and we don't have the money for an outfit, so I would just need to sew one.

Oh darn!

Searching through my fabric, I found this adorable brushed sweater knit that I got from Knitpop in an auction and I decided it would be perfect for a little sweater. After some searching, I settled on the Sawyer by Annelaine Patterns. It has a ridiculous amount of fun options, but all I was interested in was a perfectly simple sweater with inset sleeves. And it comes in a huge size range, including this little 12-month size, perfect baby shower size!

Gotta add pants to the sweater! I had this great denim in my stash, it's black and silver woven denim. It isn't metallic, but it is super pretty! I had more difficulties picking a pattern. I really wanted to stick with the 12-month size of the shirt and picking a woven denim greatly reduced the patterns I had to pick from. I ended up choosing the Kid's Moto Pants pattern by Ellie and Mac because I wanted to use this crazy beautiful Harley Diamond Quilted for the moto patches and then I added the cuffs because I needed to show more of this awesome fabric from The Fab Clique!

Yeah, so pretty much the most perfect baby shower gift EVER! I can't believe this is the first time I've ever sewn for a baby shower! First, but definitely not the last!

What is your go-to baby shower gift? There are about 4 more baby showers coming up in the next 6 months, I need some more ideas!

Girl's 10K Tank and Dress

Last summer I started this crazy testing phase of my life and this was one of my favorite tests! Kaylie was very nervous because this was her first tank EVER! But she fell quickly in love with it and has asked for a few more for this summer. It's cute enough that I just might do that for her!

Little about this pattern, it's the Girls 10k Racerback from Pickle Toes Patterns. It has a racerback cut and color blocking. There is the option to do bands or binding around the arms and neck. There are two different fits, the slim and a loser fit. It also comes in 3 different lengths, top, tunic and dress for sizes newborn up to size 20!!

For Kaylie, we choose to do the top length with binding, and I fought and fought and fought with this binding until I wanted to cry! But I figured it out! I was so proud of the end results of this tank! The back is my favorite part!! The beautiful Venice Medallions fabric is DBP from So Sew English makes it so soft and comfy! I see a few more in our future!

Quick round-up of all the Girls 10k Racerback options:
3 lengths (top, tunic, and dress)
          2 finishes (binding and band)
          2 fits (loose and fitted)
2 back options (full tank and racerback)
          color blocking

Kaylie is sure that this is one of her favorite tanks to just hang out in! And guess what, it comes in Women's sizes too! Check out the Women's 10k Racerback!

I love DBP because it is super stretchy, soft and it behaves so well, but it's not my favorite to wear! Haha! I actually love wearing bamboo spandex the most, but it's not as well behaved under the presser foot. What is your favorite fabric to sew with?
